Cody Cairo - Varsity Boys Basketball
The Peck High School Athletic Department recognizes senior Cody Cairo as February’s Athlete of the Month, celebrating his composure, leadership, and performance on the basketball court. Having played for 12 years, Cairo has evolved into a leader whose presence is felt in every facet of the game. For Cairo, this recognition is a significant milestone in his final high school season. “It means a lot to me,” Cairo stated, reflecting on the honor of representing his school.
A defining moment for Cairo this season came during a high-scoring performance against North Huron. Dominating the floor, he turned in a 20-point game, showcasing the offensive spark that makes him a focal point of the Pirates' strategy. However, while individual stats grab headlines, Cairo finds the most pride in collective success, citing the team’s victory at the Marlette Tournament as his proudest accomplishment.
Cairo is quick to deflect praise toward his teammates, attributing much of his growth to the environment they create in the gym. He notes that his peers push him daily and provide support through the season's highs and lows. This bond has been further strengthened by the coaching staff; throughout the year, the most vital lesson Cairo has absorbed is the art of staying disciplined—a trait that allows him to remain effective even when the game becomes chaotic.
For the younger generation of Peck athletes, Cairo’s advice is simple: “Never give up.” While the accolades are rewarding, he finds the best part of the game to be the energy of the student section, encouraging himself and his teammates to play hard.
Congratulations Cody Cairo on being named February’s Athlete of the Month.
Axel Meyers - Varsity Cheerleading
The Peck High School Athletic Department is proud to recognize Junior Axel Meyers as February’s Athlete of the Month, celebrating her leadership, work ethic, and unwavering dedication to her team.
Although Meyers is only in her second year of cheer, she is described as a dedicated and hardworking athlete, Meyers has built a reputation for perseverance. For her, this award is a meaningful validation of her progress: “It means that Coach sees my potential,” she shared.
Meyers views her most significant accomplishment through a personal lens, noting that she is most proud of the confidence she gained by the end of the season. This personal growth allowed her to step into her role as a vital leader and role model for both her peers and younger athletes.
While she finds the most joy in the bond she shares with her teammates, Meyers also credits her growth to the guidance of Coach Bader. The most impactful lesson she learned this year is that while it is okay to need a break, it is equally important to keep pushing yourself.
Her advice to the next generation of Peck cheerleaders is to always push themselves and remain confident—a philosophy she has modeled throughout her own journey. As Meyers continues to set the bar high, Coach Bader noted, “Axel is a great leader and role model... I am so proud of all she has accomplished.”
Congratulations Axel Meyers on being named February’s Athlete of the Month.
