Backpack Food

Dear Peck Community,

As many of you know, these are difficult times we are living in, and many families struggle to put nutritious food on their tables. One way Peck Community Schools assists with food needs is through our Weekend Food Program. We currently send home 24 bags of food each week. The National Honor Society oversees the program, and students in this organization pick up, transport, bag, and deliver the food weekly. They make sure that each bag contains a fruit, vegetable, carbohydrate, and protein, along with two other additional items.

In order for this vital service to keep operating, we are in need of funding. While local grants from the Sanilac County Community Foundation have been instrumental in keeping the program running in the past, they are no longer enough. In fact, if additional funds are not procured soon, the program may not last through the end of the school year. For this reason, we are asking for monetary donations from the community. Any amount that you are able to give would be greatly appreciated. Donations can be made in person at the high school or elementary office or mailed to the school. Please make checks payable to Peck Community Schools. If you could write Weekend Food Program on the memo line, that would be helpful. Please address your envelope to Rachel Shephard 222 E. Lapeer St. Peck, MI 48466.

While some would prefer to give food donations, at this time, monetary donations are all we are requesting. That way, nutritious meals are ensured and the same type and quantity of food can be distributed to each family.

Thank you so very much for all you do for our community. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Shephard, the NHS advisor, at 810-378-5200, ext. 46204 or shephardr@peckschools.net

Sincerely,

Peck NHS
